New Moon Solar Eclipse in Aquarius: The Way Things Were Is Not the Way Forward

The week of Feb 16 is supercharged with a fusion of mighty energies. Feb 17 marks a new eclipse cycle activating the Aquarius-Leo axis with a Solar Annular Eclipse in Aquarius. It coincides with the Lunar New Year of the Fire Horse, which symbolizes intense energy, rapid transformation, and bold action. Joining the gang, is the Saturn-Neptune conjunction in Aries on Feb 20.

The three main events occurring this week is a triple threat for those not ready to think for themselves, lead, and be accountable for the actions.

Meaning and Energy

Let’s break this trio down one by one.

The Horse zodiac animal represents freedom, breakthroughs, urging decisive movement over hesitation. This is very much Aquarian energy, which is governed by Uranus, the ruler of this Solar Eclipse.

The Fire element amplifies traits like passion, courage, charisma, and sometimes impulsive force. This is very much Aries energy which rules the Saturn-Neptune conjunction on Feb 20.

The last Saturn–Neptune conjunction occurred in 1989, in the sign of Capricorn. That cycle was associated with major structural dissolutions globally (most notably the fall of the Berlin Wall later that year).

The next Saturn-Neptune conjunction Aries will occur in approximately 323–325 years.

Eclipses occur when either one of the lunar nodes is close enough to the Sun or Moon.  Typically, but not always, eclipses happen in pairs, like in this cycle, with the March 3 Total Lunar Eclipse in Virgo.

Solar Eclipses occur on New Moons. New Moons open the door for you to step into new timelines. They’re sources of fresh energy – moments to recalibrate your higher, conscious Self with your subconscious, emotional Self, especially when it’s an eclipse.

A New Moon is converted into a Solar Eclipse due to its closeness to either one of the lunar nodes. This Solar Eclipse in Aquarius is very close the North Node of destiny, which represents your soul’s evolution and purpose in this lifetime.

Alchemy of the Solar Annular Eclipse in Aquarius

On February 17, 2026, at 7:13 AM EST, we experience a New Moon Solar Eclipse at 28° Aquarius.

It is an annular eclipse – which is when the Moon passes directly in front of the Sun – but doesn’t completely cover it. Instead of total darkness, you see a bright “ring of fire” around the Moon.

Annular solar eclipse: The Moon covers the center of the Sun, leaving a bright ring.

Total solar eclipse: The Moon completely covers the Sun (brief daytime darkness).

Partial solar eclipse: The Moon covers only part of the Sun.

The path of annularity – where the ‘ring of fire’ will be visible – will be primarily visible over Antarctica for the local lifeforms to enjoy.

The partial phase, however, will be visible to folks across southeastern Africa, the southern tip of South America, and over parts of the Pacific, Indian, Atlantic and Southern oceans. Heard and McDonald Islands, Australia, and French Southern and Antarctic Lands, France, will see 88% of the sun’s disk covered.

This eclipse is the first one on the Aquarius-Leo axis activating this cycle that will last until 2028.

Aquarius is the fixed air sign ruled by Uranus and Saturn, with both currently making major aspects to the Sun and Neptune, respectively.

This eclipse introduces disruption to status quo and challenges normalcy.

The Sun-Uranus square, albeit separating, amplifies the energy of conflict between the need for stability and safety and a strong desire to break free.
